This looks pretty fun, save for the random resets, lol.

Great idea to 3dnise the arcade classic. The only problem is this version needs polishing - it is plain UGLY. Depressing colors, badly interpreted sprites and onland features, and not interesting, bland interpretation of (originally unseen in game) skies and horizon, which could be imaginative homage to the original. This is just a WIP beta wersion for me.

Are the little red “dashes” in the bottom part of the playing field supposed to be there? Is it to simulate “stars” perhaps? I noticed that nothing happens when you fly into them.

Reminds me of original TRON graphics.

Wow, that's really cool. I love River Raid. This looks like they did it justice.

Strange that the Atari 2600 version was the first and the best due to the colors and the control. All of the other systems were more powerful and should have been better. The colors in the Colecovision version were terrible - much too bright.

What a great game! I already love Frogger but I honesly might love this game more.

I played this at Galloping Ghost Arcade a few weeks ago!

I just discovered this tribute and it’s great. Thank you! Steve was my best friend. I miss him every day. Even though this was his only officially released game, he was a brilliant designer and truly loved games and game history. He taught me how to program games on his 286 computer 30 years ago and I’m still making games because of him. He was also a game journalist and researcher, and wrote many published reviews. Anyways, this is a great vid and Road Duel is an awesome game.

I remember Micro Machines well, but I never had any. By 1989 or so, I had long lost interest in toys and little cars.

It's one game that has aged quite well. The trick is rescuing everybody on every level for the bonus plus the value of each survivor goes up after each wave. Galaxy Wars for Super Famicom is somewhat like Lunar Rescue in reverse. (You steer a missile and control the thrust to take out aliens moving accross the top of the screen while avoiding obsticles along the way. Original was a black and white game from the same era by Universal. Probably hacked Lunar Rescue the way it looks).

I had the Stomper Bully monster truck toy, a larger toy that was designed to compete with the then-popular Bigfoot toy (and like Bigfoot, it was modelled after a real monster truck). It came with a similar winch accessory; and man, that thing could pull the Bully up a slope or even a wall.

Good timing. Yesterday I got and started reading the book Creating Q*bert by its creator Warren Davis.

In the book "Creating Q*bert and Other Classic Video Arcade Games", Warren Davis says that he thought Q*Bert's 2600 graphics were pretty bad. For the arcade game he writes that it was suggested to him to use a standard cardinal up/down/left/right directions, but he was adamant and kept the diagonal setup instead. The kicker addon came as a suggestion from his coworkers at the Gottlieb pinball division. He thought the game was too easy and when he saw people able to play it practically forever, he sort of kicked himself for not following his gut (my impression not how it was said in the book). This was partly the motivation behind "Faster, More Challenging Q*Bert". Many years later (in the 90s) after leaving Gottlieb he met someone from Sony at a convention. Knowing Sony had bought many Gottlieb videogame IPs, he casually mentioned Q*Bert and the Sony guy admitted the company was not aware they had such gold mine in their hands. A year or two later Sony publishes Q*Bert for the PS1.

Favorite arcade game. Possibly my favorite Atari 2600 game. LOVED this one as a kid! Still love it as an adult!

I had this back in the day. Played it a lot, one of my favorites.

I remember playing this with my grandmother when I was 5 years old. It was her favorite game and she would put it on two player and hand me a joystick and we would stay up most of the night trying to see how high we could get our scores. The next day I would have the sound effects of placing the bets and the reels running through my head. Good times and good memories. :)

It is a great arcade game I used to play it at my local arcade and always enjoyed it. I made some adjustments to make it a little easier and of course the different screen ratio.
